Frequently Asked Questions

The Boerne ISD 2022 School Bond was pulled together by a Long-Range Steering Committee made up of 82 community leaders, parents, teachers, students, and Boerne ISD leadership team members  representing a cross section of the district. The committee analyzed information regarding the district’s need for capital projects to build a bond package that was recommended

to the Board and was unanimously approved on January 24, 2022.

If approved by voters, the proposed 2022 Bond will provide funds to construct new space to accommodate 2,400 additional students including a new Elementary School, additions at the district’s middle schools, library hubs and additional classrooms at our four existing  legacy elementary schools, and renovate the Administration building to accommodate expansion of the Academy and the 18+ Program. The 2022 Bond would fund priority maintenance and safety measures including audio-visual refreshing, fire alarm and public address system upgrades, air filtration upgrades, lighting, new buses, and rubberized playground surfaces at elementary schools. Lastly, the bond package would include classroom audio visual refresh along with other upgrades central to the schools’ functioning.

The district would be able to provide devices for students and staff at new Elementary #8 , as well as a refresh for all campuses district-wide.

The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees called for a $165,640,000 bond referendum to fund these proposed projects.

Recent legislation has required that specific bond items be presented to voters for consideration in separate propositions.  Technology that is not central to the school’s infrastructure is one of those items, which is why the Boerne ISD 2020 Bond will appear on the ballot as Proposition 1 for $162,640,000 and Proposition 2 for $3,000,000 (Technology).

Bond money CANNOT pay for the general maintenance and operations of a school – it CANNOT pay teachers, run buses, provide food services or maintenance and custodial services. If the bond does not pass, any renovations, remodels, and/or improvements to keep our schools open will come from maintenance and operation funds, which WILL take funds from the education of our children.

If approved by voters, the 2022 Bond will produce NO TAX RATE  INCREASE for BISD taxpayers. The 2022 Bond is intended to be  accomplished with no change to the tax rate. As part of House Bill 3 (HB3) passed by the 86thTexas legislature in 2019, all ballot  language for school bond elections MUST include the statement  “This is a property tax increase”. However, the Boerne ISD 2022 Bond will NOT increase the district’s current tax rate.

Taxes for homeowners 65 years and older will not increase above  your current exemption ceiling if the 2022 Bond is approved.

Boerne ISD’s tax rate is the 2nd lowest when compared to those  in the immediate area and to other fast-growth districts. Boerne  ISD’s tax rate is well below the average when compared to local  and other fast-growth districts.

Should the 2022 Bond be approved by voters, projects will be  phased throughout construction. The timetable for construction  will depend in large part on the availability of materials and an  adequate construction work force.

Early voting will be held from Monday, April 25 through Tuesday,  May 3. Election day is Saturday, May 7th. The last day to register  to vote will be Thursday, April 7th, and the Last day to apply for  an absentee ballot will be Tuesday, April 26th (received, not  postmarked).

The early voting main location will be the Kendall County Elections Office at 221 Fawn Valley Drive in Boerne. The branch voting  location for early voting will be at the Van Raub School House at  8776 Dietz-Elkhorn Road in Fair Oaks Ranch.
